UpToDate is an electronic primary resource for point-of-care medical knowledge and research that has proven to increase clinical knowledge and improve patient care. This electronic resource acts as a quick reference manual on symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, drugs and drug interactions, medical calculations, and patient education that can be used while working directly with patients. Using a personal UptoDate account while searching allows CME credit accumulation, as well.
Why UpToDate?
ON-SITE: To access UpToDate onsite from a hospital location:
While in EPIC:
Not in EPIC, but on a hospital Chrome web browser:
OFF-SITE: To access the UpToDate mobile app off campus or for the first time, follow the steps below:
It’s best practice to sign into your Uptodate for the first time while on a CMH computer while inside EPIC LIVE.
Once you are logged into EPIC, go to the top row and click the "UpToDate" button.
Now you will get a MICROSOFT login window popping up. That is where you put in your long ext.providence.org email and password.
It will create your profile automatically, and you will see your name at the top right.
Your Providence login/pw will be what you use in the Update Anywhere mobile app.
Download the UptoDate Anywhere mobile app, which can be found at: UpToDate Mobile Clinical Decision Support App. When you register, you will also get a WELCOME email that has links to the UptoDate mobile app.
Once you download the mobile app, to sign in, you can only do so by clicking the “Microsoft Signin” button.
When you are successfully inside UpTodate, you will see your name at the top left:
UpToDate requires users to extend their personal account access by logging in while on campus once every 90 days. If you do not login from a hospital computer in that timeframe you will need to re-register using this process again.
UpToDate requires that users signing in through an institutional license re-authenticate their affiliation every 90 days.
If at any time you are unable to log into UpToDate or are told you are no longer a verified user, start with this step. It is quite possible that all you need to do is re-verify your credentials.
